TrendCentral: Built on the Layar platform, the UAR (Urban Augmented Reality) app was developed by the Netherlands Architecture Institute with the ambitious goal of making the Netherlands the first country to have its landmark architectural sites explorable on a smart phone for those who want to embark on a self-guided tour. Beginning with Rotterdam, where users can see a 3D model of the unfinished Market Hall, the institute plans to add several Dutch cities, with the entire country online within five years. Users will not only be provided with current details on a building’s architecture, but also with interesting facts about the history of the site, as well as information on plans for the future. Maybe we will finally understand what motivated architects to design such a narrow house – and, even more importantly, how people actually manage to live in it.

I wonder if we are we going to see more smartphones in the Augmented reality arena! – Android Smartphones MUST be a winner when AR is in question. Looking forward to seeing what is going to be developed for these cool phones using AR.
How long do we have to wait for the first real 3D Tablet that runs Android and can cope with AR in everyday life. There are some incredible AR software and APPs been developed, but we need more devices with higher specs to run them as they were intended.
