External Airbags For Cars

The external airbags from ZF reduce the severity of impacts for both cars involved in an accident.

Currently only available for the side of a car, the ZF airbag relies on the same technology used in traditional airbags, but on a much larger scale—up to three times larger and inflated with multiple inflators. The system features an array of sensors that include radar, lidar and cameras that will detect an imminent collision and trigger the airbag to deploy in milliseconds—just before the impact occurs.
