Four Traditional Career Opportunities with a New Twist

There are many small business opportunities out there, and you’ll inevitably run up against competitors in your field. Suppose you’ve been considering going into business for yourself or becoming a freelancer. In that case, you may want to look at a few traditional occupations that have taken on new importance and have evolved into new job opportunities.

Medical Scribe or Transcriptionist

In the past, medical transcriptionists were almost entirely work-from-home positions. The work primarily consisted of taking audio recordings from doctors and typing them verbatim into notes or reports. Transcribing was done from these recordings, usually made after the doctor had seen the patient.

A newer off-shoot of this that’s in high demand is a medical scribe. A scribe works in tandem with doctors while they are seeing patients. They record all patient information, update files, schedule testing, and send in prescriptions. This is a more hands-on job than a medical transcriptionist. Both positions are excellent opportunities, depending on whether you want to work independently or alongside a doctor.

Workplace Diversity Specialist

Human Resources departments are increasingly searching for individuals trained in promoting workplace diversity. More businesses want HR professionals with specific training in creating a welcoming, diverse workplace in response to recent racial tensions. Diversity specialists help companies attract a wide range of talent across the socioeconomic spectrum. If you already have an HR background, you can ramp up your marketability by taking courses on workplace diversity.

Niche Coaching

Career coaching was first, followed by life coaching. There is an incredible array of coaching opportunities in the digital age of increased specialization. Do some research into what kinds of work and personal issues are on the increase, then design a coaching program around helping others resolves those issues. Some examples are transition coaching, which helps individuals successfully transition from one career to another or one lifestyle to another. There are successful niche coaches for bloggers, time management, entrepreneurs, and virtual employment.

Robotics Technicians

Robots are on the verge of becoming a part of everyday life. Surgeons now use robots for some procedures. Robots are used by police forces to approach dangerous situations where humans would likely be injured or killed. In some areas, robotic dogs (some called “Spot”) have been added to police teams for everything from checking temperatures to protect from Covid to interviewing suspects remotely. Advanced robotics need advanced robotic technicians to keep them functioning correctly. Since robots have only recently become a part of routine life, becoming a robotic technician will put you ahead of the game and establish you as an expert.

Entrepreneurs who want to carve out a new kind of career opportunity can find many options if they look at where industries are headed in the future rather than where they are now.
