In June, U.K.-based FX-Sport is launching a Kickstarter fundraiser to perfect its advanced VR2 mp3 player, which can be waterproofed through a silicon accessory. This product is unique in that you can upload text to speech recordings into your headphones, and if you’re an athlete, that may be the edge you need in competition.
Customized Training Sessions
“You can create your own workouts or upload to the headphones, pre-prepared training sessions from a data base of hundreds in the Workout Store, onto a purpose made wireless device,” said founder Duncan Walsh, in an interview with Examiner.com. “The workouts are all professionally constructed by top personal trainers.”
For example, you can record a message that guides you through speed drills on the track, or how many reps you should do while weightlifting. You can also add inspirational speeches or a coach’s guide into your mp3 headphones.
While training, athletes often upload inspirational songs unto their mp3 player. Imagine listening to LeBron James or Wayne Rooney give an inspirational speech. With VR2’s silicone cover, swimmers can do that even while under water.
Real-Time Guidance
Walsh is a former British Open over 40 squash champion, and he’s tapped into a powerful sports concept that could change the wearable tech industry. An athlete’s state of mind is what unlocks potential, where coaches demand intensity, not just raw talent.
The VR2 can provide real-time motivation and guidance. Thus, peak performance may be sustained for longer periods.
Miniaturization of technology should unleash the fire of any fitness enthusiast or young athlete, because electronics can become a mobile coach that guides users as they perform on the field, or on a pool.
Applications Outside Sports
Programmable devices such as the VR2 have applications beyond athletics. In academics, a student can set a timer within his mp3 to set time limits on when he should complete a school assignment.
At work, a safety engineer can set reminders on his mp3 player to check processes against safety protocols out on the field.
