Pro skater Lucas Puig spends a lot of time at the beach. And while he’s there, he often sees plastic waste on the sand and floating in the waves. Bottles, bags, containers, lids…if you try to count all the pieces of plastic in your home, it might take you hours. Seeing all this junk floating in the oceans is upsetting. Now, Adidas is doing something about it.
In partnership with Puig, Adidas has debuted its newest shoes. This is the Puig PK Primeblue design. Made in part with Parley ocean plastic, this shoe was inspired by Puig’s life in his hometown. He’s from Biarritz, France, a coastal town that gives him a front-row seat to the damage that plastics are doing to the oceans.
“It’s a small but positive thing that I can do when given the opportunity to develop a shoe made in part with recycled materials,” said Puig.
The Puig PK Primeblue has an all-white design that’s made with a lightweight performance upper made with Primeknit technology. This shoe is constructed, in part, with plastic waste taken from shorelines, coastal communities, islands and beaches. Instead of floating off into the ocean, that plastic waste is being put into these shoes.
To honor its purpose, the Puig PK Primeblue has a contrasting wave design on the sole. Meanwhile, the midsole is made with high-grade EVA, a lightweight foam that will absorb impact to reduce foot shock. A molded Adiprene sockliner adds more cushioning, creating a glove-like fit around the foot. It’s Adidas comfort and Adidas style, but in a more sustainable, eco-friendly design.
Puig will be working with Adidas on creating more sustainable products. This is just one of many exciting announcements to come from Adidas recently, as the company has committed to ending plastic waste.
