Group video chat app Houseparty, which boasts more than one million daily users, raised $50 million from Sequoia this winter. The service bills itself as a “living room” for youth, allowing up to eight people to video chat together at once. Unlike many social platforms, the teen-centric app is focused on strengthening existing relationships rather than building a following or connecting strangers. Users are alerted if one of their friends has invited someone they don’t know personally, and Zs can opt to exit immediately if they feel their privacy is at risk.
