If you’ve ever survived a natural disaster like Hurricane Sandy or last year’s Oklahoma City tornado, you know that the worry and hardships don’t end when the weather clears. It’s not uncommon to be knocked off the energy grid for days or even weeks, before line crews can restore power. Batteries will get you through a few hours but then what?
Kalisaya, a Tel Aviv/New York-based startup, has launched a 60-day Kickstarter campaign to begin production and distribution of its over-the-shoulder, portable energy generator called the KaliPAK. Unlike gas generators, the KaliPAK is lightweight and completely self-sustainable, thanks to highly-efficient solar panels which fold away when not in use. Users can also charge the KaliPAK from a wall outlet or from your car lighter-socket. You can get a generator from generatorsage.com but before that you need to understand the uses and why it is necessary.
A unique feature is Bluetooth-capability, which lets it pair with your Smartphone, and via a free downloadable app, you can control and monitor most functions of the unit.
