If you’ve ever wanted to start composting at home but got put off by the hassle and the smell, the Sepura could be the sustainable solution you’ve been looking for. Unveiled for the first time at Las Vegas CES 2020, Sepura is an eco-friendly alternative to the traditional garbage disposal system that can be easily installed beneath almost any sink — eliminating the need for a tabletop composting container. Developed by Canadian startup Anvy Technologies as “the first sustainable food disposal system in the world,” the smart home product features a carbon filter inside to neutralize smells and prevent fruit flies so that you can even keep your food waste in the bin for up to a month.
Introduced as Anvy Technologies’ first flagship product, Sepura was designed to be beautiful, affordable and easy to use while helping to contribute to a greener world. As a smarter alternative to conventional garbage disposals, Sepura also grinds up food waste. Instead of sending the solid matter into the pipes, it instead diverts the separated food solids into an odorless, sealed collection bin beneath the sink for composting. Unlike disposals that are typically very loud, Sepura operates with a quiet hum as it processes food.
For easy installation, the Sepura collection bin has an adjustable height and comes with a 3-inch drain attachment. Four LED lights in front of the container indicate how full the Sepura is; the contents can be emptied out by sliding out the drawer. Sepura also comes with built-in sensors that automatically stop the food disposal process in the event that a large, non-food item is dropped into the sink drain to allow for safe retrieval.
“Empowering consumers to help the environment in a way that is both impactful and convenient is what Sepura aims to do” said Victor Nicolov, Sepura CEO. “Sepura is a beautiful, clean and convenient solution to home food waste disposal.” Sepura is currently available for pre-order for $340 at sepurahome.com. Units will begin shipping in late 2020.
