Stockholm’s Clarion Hotel is doing away with the notion of the starving artist by accepting artwork as payment for hotel rooms. In order to qualify for the deal, artists simply need to submit any signed piece of artwork which fits on an A4 sheet of paper, along with a Room for Art form describing the artist and artwork. The hotel takes ownership of the artwork and in exchange, provides one night’s stay for up to two people in a double room.
Room for Art is the brainchild of Clarion’s general manager, whose aim is to create an atmosphere that appreciates art and welcomes and attracts artists.
