Here’s a fact that will make you want to wash your hands: Studies show that there are up to 7,000 types of bacteria living on every smartphone. Considering how often (and in how many places) people use their phones and how infrequently phones are actually cleaned, the info may not be that surprising.
However, a South Korean company has seen a need for smartphone cleanliness, developing a sanitizing device called Green Toaster. Created by the ad agency Innored and UK-based design school Kinneir Dufort for the Korean e-commerce giant Gmarket, Green Toaster claims to deep clean any smartphone in minutes, using UV light. The product is being marketed to coffee shops and the like, so that customers can clean their phones while they wait for their drink.
