Iconoculture: Your phone is reeking. Japan’s Keitai KunKun smelltones release subtle (yet unmistakable) aromas like Berry and Wild Nature. There’s even a special blend for Hello Kitty. The smelly celly accessories are triggered by the signal of an incoming call, e-mail, or text message. Keitai KunKun isn’t the only tech company following its nose: Singapore’s Nice Smell Kaori-chan Perfume Straps for cellphones emit sweet (and savory) scents like Jasmine, Curry, and English Tea with every ring.

Now that’s innovation right there. Can’t say I’d buy a scented phone myself, but I’ve no doubt the market is massive. Imagine the brainstorm session that resulted in this breakthrough…It would be something like this…
“Hey, I know, how about a phone that releases an aroma each time an incoming call come through?”
Snigger. Snigger.
“Yeah right…Like we’d sell any!”
“Yeah, you’re probably right. Forget I mentioned it.”
Then, the smart faciltator takles control, captures the idea, and asks the room to think about it a bit more. The Smell-O-Phone is born!
